Dia de los Muertos

Today is Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead, a Mexican holiday), although it's celebrated for a longer span of time. A lot of people put up ofrendas (dedications, or "alters") to their deceased loved ones. I made one last year for my grandpa after he died.

Check it out: a review I wrote of the Dia de los Muertos show at the National Museum of Mexican Art was published in New City Magazine!

It turns out those sugar skulls taste pretty bad, in case anyone was curious (like me). Might as well eat a spoonful of sugar.

K doesn't need it anyway, cause she's so sweet.

Also, I gotta give a shout out to my bro' Ray Bradbury for having sugar skulls in "The Halloween Tree", which is like one of my favorite children's books. But I never saw one until K and I saw them in Frisco.

Those sugar skulls are intense. One of our ESL teachers brought some into the Counseling office for all of us. It would take a week to eat if you didn't want to puke.

Well, it's a Chicago magazine, and it's free, but, I'm happy. (: Thanks, momma.
