I like the comment someone made that one should either 1) accept the God-given condition of infertility, or 2) if one chooses to use science to counteract infertility, one should also use reason and rationality about how many you can feasibly raise.
I think people should be allowed to reproduce or not-reproduce how they see fit, but using fertility treatments when you've already got six kids is just bad form.
I blame the IVF doctor. It should be malpractice to, not only, implant that many embroys but not consider how many kids she had. The sad thing is, she won't be able to care for them alone. Our social services will have to help BIG TIME or she will loose the kids. Poor babies.
I can't believe the media hoopla - you know, it's like Octuplet Mom Speaks! Pictures of the Octuplets! Octuplets' Mom's Mom Speaks! I mean, OBVIOUSLY they're a bunch of lunatics. I'm a draconian about this - I think people who reproduce more than themselves should really be able to prove they know what they're doing - the world's too overpopulated.
She IS a nut job and there are rumblings about the ethics (and continued licensure) of the attending physician. Apparently for a woman her age who has children the standard is to implant only 2 embryos with most physicians agreeing to implant only one, if any. I've heard it characterized as "extreme misconduct" on his part.
China's demonstration of zero-population growth has been miserable and really undermined the [already really low] value of women/girls in that country. Funny---now there are not enough brides for those treasured sons, villages are "dying", etc. I think that unless individuals embrace the importance of population management in earnest we have a very big problem. Do you know how many people live in Mumbai???
