I love lists

I happen to love making lists. Today, I was thinking to myself: I'm going to make a list of types of lists. While putting it together in my head, I happened to hear about another list, which is possibly better than my list: the Overrated list, apparently initiated by that rat bastard Christopher Hitchens. Hitchens supposedly said “the four most overrated things in life were champagne, lobsters, anal sex, and picnics.” I disagree with two out of those four things.

The list is not as easy to formulate as one might think. Do I include our ostentatious 42 inch, high def, flat screen television? No, it's obnoxious, but it's also friggin' awesome. Paris? No, I totally love Paris. Luxury cars? How would I know?

Special K's list of 4 Overrated Things
1. Orson Welles
2. Master's degrees
3. little children
4. Live music

What's yours?

I don't think I want to ask, which of the two do you agree with from Hitchens "Overrated list", and how does Orson Welles rate so high on your list? (Also, I didn't think you were Overrated when you were a child, I think you were rated "very high")....My Overrated List: 1: Last years College Basketball's #1 team; LOUISVILLE 2: Foreign Cars 3: Starbucks 4: Most Politicians

Hitch just had to throw anal sex in there didn't he?
Well, I consider Hitchens one of the most overrated contrarians of our time- being a mean drunk is not the same as thinking things through- and he sacrificed any intellectual credibility he once had with his tubthumping for the Iraq war.

Although, I'm not fond of champagne, lobsters, live music, or Orson Welles. I don't think any of them would make my most overrated list tho'.

1. Lump together some early-90's alt-pop: Oasis, Green Day, Counting Crows and Smashing Pumpkins. Puh-lllease.
2. Adulthood
3. Vacations on cruise ships
4. Contemporary pop-Country music

For nearly every single one of these, I could write volumes about how loathsome I find them to be.

I think lobster and picnics are NOT overrated:) They are both awesome. As for the other two, ick!

My overrated list:
1. Cake (pie is much better!)
2. Twitter
3. Any one of those Disney-fied teen idols - Jonas Bros., Hannah Montana, Zack & Cody, etc.
4. Lost (TV show - I haven't seen it and I still lead a wonderful life)

I take back my #3 and replace it with massages. Such a waste of money.

Oh, mystery Karen, I *love* massages...

OK, when you leave me without distractions, I get surly.

Live music is NOT overrated unless the musicians performing it are. Live music is the best but care has to be taken in certain venues to make sure the acoustics aren't all whacked out. I've actually begun to think that live music is nearly invariably better than recorded music except for those kinds of music that rely heavily on much enhancement in the production process.

Live music conveys SO much emotion..that's why people describe great performances as "killing"...it has that much power. I need much more live music in my life.

I suppose I should clarify that the "live music" I find overrated is in a restaurant where I don't want to listen to music, I want to eat and talk. I always feel bad for the musicians, too, because everyone's shouting over them. But live music that I choose to see and listen to, I love.
